Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is No-Till gardening?

A: No-till growing is an innovative agricultural practice that emphasizes minimal soil disturbance, promoting a more sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to farming. Traditionally, tilling has been used to prepare fields for planting, breaking up soil and mixing in organic matter. However, this method can lead to soil erosion, nutrient depletion, and disruption of the soil's natural ecosystem. By adopting no-till methods, farmers aim to preserve soil structure, enhance moisture retention, and foster a healthier habitat for beneficial microorganisms.

One of the key benefits of no-till growing is its positive impact on soil health. By avoiding mechanical disturbance, the soil’s natural composition remains intact, allowing for better water infiltration and aeration. This practice encourages the development of a diverse range of microorganisms and earthworms, which play a crucial role in nutrient cycling and soil fertility. As a result, no-till systems often require fewer chemical inputs, reducing the reliance on fertilizers and pesticides while promoting a more balanced ecosystem.

No-till growing also contributes to climate resilience and sustainability. By maintaining soil cover with crop residues or cover crops, farmers can reduce erosion and runoff, capturing carbon in the soil and helping mitigate climate change. This method not only sequesters carbon but also improves the farm's ability to withstand extreme weather events, such as heavy rainfall or drought. Additionally, the reduced need for machinery helps lower fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions associated with traditional tilling practices.

Implementing no-till techniques may pose challenges, particularly for farmers transitioning from conventional methods. Initial investment in equipment and changes in management practices can be daunting. However, the long-term benefits—such as improved soil health, increased yields, and enhanced resilience—often outweigh these challenges. As more farmers adopt no-till growing, the agricultural community is increasingly recognizing its potential to create a more sustainable future for food production.

Q: What is your delivery policy?

A: Currently we do not offer delivery, but when that changes soon we will let you know! All current orders placed can be picked up at the farm, or at our weekly farmers markets unless otherwise worked out.

Q: What happens if I miss a Farmers Market pick-up date?

A: Please contact us in the event you are unable to pick up a pre order for pickup at an event. We will do everything we can in reason to help.

Q: Do you use any pesticides or other chemicals?

A: In the event of heavy pest pressure, we only use Organically Certified, plant derived sprays such as BT and Pyrethrin.

Q: Are you Certified Organic/Naturally Grown?

A: We are currently not certified in any way, but are currently working towards out Certified Naturally Grown certification in the Spring of 2025, when we are able to apply. In that journey, we only utilize Organic growing practices to grow our produce.

Q: Do you collaborate with local Chefs/ Community Shared Agriculture Programs?

A: We are thrilled to talk to Chefs about bringing locally sourced foods to their restaurants. Please email us with any questions or needs you may have.
